The Christmas season brings about heart-warming stories about heroes, young and old. This year’s Christmas you’ll find heroes striving to save the meaning of Christmas, heroes of biblical proportion and animated heroes. But, the most inspirational hero is a man whose real story demonstrates the power of faith in a mighty God.
Christmas seems to no longer be about the birth of Jesus, but instead is about food, gifts and elaborate pageantry. With #HappyHolidays as the twitter trending word, Christians feel that the meaning of Christmas is lost and Kirk Cameron hopes to set things straight this year in his film Saving Christmas. At his sister’s annual Christmas party, Kirk sets a plan in motion to save his brother-in-law from a bad case of the Christmas Blues.
Watch it For: With the inundation of Christmas commercialism it’s easy to lose track of the truest meaning of Christmas, but this film reminds us that everything we do to celebrate is a tradition that honors the glorious day that Christ Jesus was born.
The Mockingjay is born when Katniss Everdeen becomes the symbol of rebellion. Watch it For: The power of one voice. It’s scary to take a stand against someone more significant or powerful than you, but let this be a reminder that when it comes to our faith, God is always more powerful than anyone and He will give us the strength and courage we need to prevail.
The team behind “Frozen” and “Wreck-It Ralph” bring this year’s playful animated film. Watch it For: A lighthearted laugh and adventure as we enter into the holiday season. In the midst of the holiday rush, this is a fun film to enjoy with a carefree spirit.
The story of Moses’ exodus from Egypt is one of the most well known biblical accounts. This winter, the dramatization of Moses’ life comes back to the big screen. Saved by Pharaoh’s daughter, when Moses’ life is threatened, Moses becomes the beloved son of Pharaoh and brother of Ramses, the heir of Egypt. Over time, Moses sees the brutal force placed on the Hebrew people by his brother Ramses. In order to save the Hebrews, Moses must leave the life he knows. By utilizing the strength and majesty of God, Moses is able to release the Hebrew people.
Watch it For: The immensity of God. State of the art visual effects and 3D immersion are used to produce this film, making the events seem astronomical. The reality is that what appears massive on screen is tiny compared to the monumental Lord we love and serve.
Imagine the most amazing accomplishment in the world and then imagine the most traumatic experience one could live through. Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini lived both. He was a high school and college track record holder who became a household name after the 1936 Olympics. That same fame kept him in the headlines after crashing in the Pacific during World War II, enduring inhuman suffering as a prisoner of war. Zamperini’s life is one of great faith, which cannot be denied. He has inspired the world with his encounters and trusts the Lord Almighty with his life.
Watch it For: The quintessential example of how all things are possible with God. Scripture says, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” He can give us the strength to push through anything. Trust in Him. He will grow your faith.
