Summer is full of magnificent, must-see movies; here are the ones we’re looking forward to seeing:
The pain of another may inflict the pain one causes. This is the case for the well-known story of Maleficent, an evil fairy who seeks vengeance on an innocent child in the classic, Sleeping Beauty. This Summer, we learn of the reinvented tale of Maleficent, a strong fairy with a pure heart, sworn to protect her land. When she is defeated, Maleficent seeks revenge, only to discover that she may be the undoing of her own hope for a beautiful future.
Watch it for: Beauty is found in the most unexpected places. Discover beauty in an untold story, magnificent set design, glorious computer animation, bold make-up and piercing costumes.
Now that Hiccop and Toothless have helped establish peace among the dragons and Vikings, they set off on an adventure to explore uncharted territory. Upon which they discover an ice cave that is filled with hundreds of new dragon species. Hiccop also uncovers truths about his identity when he meets his mother, who finds the ice cave home. As the family attempts to reunite, they must battle to save the dragons and keep the peace.
Watch it for: A fun tale about the depth in which family will go to protect one another and build one another up in love.
The Fault in Our Stars (PG 13)
Shailene Woodley has stepped into another magnificent role, pulling her further away from her Secret Life days and deeper into her acting career with her work as Hazel, a teenager facing the hardship of living life with an oxygen tank. At a cancer support group she meets Gus, a guy who is determined to sweep her off her feet. Gus’ pursuit of Hazel leaves her discovering a deep love that she never believed she could embrace.
Watch it for: Movies typically glorify love stories making them overly dramatic or all about two pretty people overcoming heartache to find one another in a happily-ever-after relationship. The Fault In Our Stars shows how love stories come in all shapes and sizes. Watch it for the anticipated drama, but also see how life can bring about the unexpected love many of us long for.
X-Men: Days of Future Past (PG-13)
When the X-Men face a trial that results in the defeat of humans and mutant heroes, they make a desperate effort to prevent destruction. By sending Wolverine back in time, they hope to unite the team to change history.
Watch it for: Many summer blockbusters are action packed, but X-Men is predicted to be the best action film of the summer. Strong character development, an attention-grabbing story, love and laughter make this movie more than just action scenes that leave you on the edge of your seat, they make this movie memorable.
Edge of Tomorrow (PG-13)
In a war against an alien race, one officer becomes the ultimate weapon used to defeat the enemy. Caught in a time loop, the officer must die again and again in order to gain strength. Using his wits to connect with a Special Forces warrior, he trains and leads to victory.
Watch it for: Would you die to save the world? We glorify heroes in movies who are willing to die for mankind, but we forget the real heroic act came from Christ who died for our sins. Real love comes when someone is willing to lay down his life for another.
