A CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE
One of the protests against the existence of God is the appalling evil on this planet. The Bible teaches that evil exists on this planet because of a curse. This curse fell on the world by the fall of Adam and Eve into sin. Cancer, child abuse, terrorism, war, famine, disease and death cover this planet because of the curse. Furthermore, by invitation of that first act of rebellion by Adam and Eve, Satan entered our atmosphere, usurped Adam’s authority and became, in the words of Jesus Christ, the “prince of this world.”
Do you not find it incredible though to see the astonishing beauty and goodness, justice and mercy that exists, in spite of the curse? By rights, THIS WORLD SHOULD BE LIKE MORDOR. Yet it is not, at least in large part. Why not?
Rather than answering the question, “Why do bad things happen?” Jesus would turn the question around and say, “Do you appreciate why so many GOOD THINGS still happen?”
The goodness and beauty on earth, in spite of the curse, is present because of the mercy and grace of God. You are familiar with the Christmas Carol “Joy to the World.” Here is the 3rd stanza:
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
Jesus has come to make fully available God’s kingdom on earth NOW and into eternity. “He has come to make His blessings flow – far as the curse is found.”
Among other things that He accomplished in His life (death, resurrection and ascension) Jesus became the new Adam — fully obeyed God and took back authority from Satan. Jesus is coming back soon to make all things right. He will cast Satan into the lake of fire and remove forever anything that causes sin – the source of the curse.
Yes, there is more to come, but THE victory over sin, Satan, sickness, destruction and death has been accomplished. In Jesus’ own words, “It is finished!” Believers live triumphantly in this present evil age, even though suffering and persecuted, standing FIRM in the victory already won by Jesus Christ.
If you are a follower of Jesus, rejoice in this brief statement in the last chapter of the last book of the Bible. This day is coming and you will see it!
“No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.” Revelation 22:4-5
You can step into the kingdom of God RIGHT NOW as you entrust yourself to Jesus Christ. He said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
