It may seem like the church and Christian teaching is outdated, or out of touch with the rest of the world. The fact is, the world has been following the path of sin, especially sexual sin, since Adam and Eve. Christian’s aren’t out of touch with sex and abstinence, instead, they are in tune with God’s plan and desire for the lives of His people.
So, while your school, counseling center and the media that saturates your life will provide detailed information about sex and contraception, the truth is that abstinence until marriage is the only way to truly enjoy intercourse. Sex isn’t a lighthearted, fun activity without consequences. Even in marriage, there can be unexpected and emotional baggage. But, God desires for pure, whole and intimate sexual activity between the couples He’s brought together for His purposes. Though you will be taught that by using the right contraception you’ll be having safe sex. The reality is that the repercussions of sex is way beyond physical.
The final Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 is Self-Control. Even though it’s listed last, it is one of the most important and hardest for our society to grasp. With regards to sex, self-respect and patience are key elements of self-control. Rather than hooking up with one guy after another, or pursuing sex with a guy to feel loved, lean into the Lord and value His view of you. Hold on to His love for you. Respect yourself enough to not belittle your love life to a frenzy of sexual experiences. Rely on God’s strength to maintain an abstinent life.
The benefits from abstaining from sex until marriage are endless. The burdens of not abstaining are endless as well. Respect your body enough to not place unnecessary burdens on it. Respect your partner and your future husband enough to not dwindle sex down to a simple physical act of pleasure. There are emotional bonds to capture and desire.
Your faith in Christ and relationship with Him is what makes you desirable to any guy worthy of your heart, body and intimacy. Honor yourself and God by saving sex for its purest most pleasurable form. Abstinence may seem outdated but love never will be. God has existed beyond time, so it’s a safe bet to hold on to His teachings. Show the Lord the respect and honor He deserves by respecting and honoring yourself and your future sex life.
