“The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” Of all the woman’s many attributes and capabilities, the first one mentioned is love. Not only is love mentioned first, but the relationship between her and her husband is mutual and healthy. He trusts, admires and appreciates her and she supports him. This kind of relationship can only occur with a deep love for one another which is rooted in Christ’s love for us.
We can pour out our love for others by providing for them and treating them with honor and respect. This woman’s children are significant recipients of her love. They are learning to love because her love rests upon them. The woman’s children look up to her as well. They know they are well taken care of and provided for as an outpouring of their mother’s love. We too know and trust in Christ’s love for us and as a result can offer that same love to others.
Love is defined by our connection or relationship with other people. Our love can extend beyond our household with the way we care for other people. Just like this woman, our love is seen by how we provide for the poor and connect with our friends and colleagues. Showing love to our friends, family and mentors is the first step to developing healthy emotional and spiritual relationships.
