Tips for Brightening Tired Eyes
Late night study session revealing itself as bags under your eyes? Here are a few tips to help you look wide awake and ready for the day:
Tip #1:
Apply a yellow or peach cream corrector on those shadows to lighten the dark tone. If you have a light complexion, with blueish circles, opt for peach. Deeper toned skin, with more of a purple bag, should use a yellow. The opposite hue will neutralize the darkness. Our favorite product is Zuzu Luxe Color Correcting Cream (this collection also has a green hue that cancels red spots, such as pimples). After using the color-correcting concealer on your dark bags, use a concealer that matches your skin-tone and top off the look with your daily foundation.
Tip #2:
Make your eyes pop with a rose gold eye liner. Gold is a neutral reflector, and the touch of pink will soften the glow. We love LA Colors Gel Eyeliner in Rose Gold. Bonus! Line both your top and bottom lid, then add a coat of mascara to create drama.
Tip #3:
Add a dab of shimmery eye shadow to the inner corners of your eyes to make them look bigger. Use your pinky finger for more precise application since it’s such a delicate and tight curve. Give Beauty Counter Lid Glow Cream Shadow a try (we recommend Gleam – Brightening White Gold). The pearlized shadow will reflect natural light and compliment the white of your eyes, creating an illusion that they are wider.
Tip #4:
Line the upper lashes of your eyes with a blue liner, then blend it in with a smudge brush. Blue contrasts the red of bloodshot eyes, making your whites look bigger and brighter. Check out Almay All-Day Intense Gel Eyeliner in Nocturnal Navy.
Tip #5
Use a really good, gentle makeup remover. Mascara residue can actually cause dark circles, and so can rubbing your eyes. So, find a gentle cleanser then make sure that you wash away all that built up mascara. We prefer Honest Makeup Remover Facial Wipes (30 wipes per pack).
Tip #6
For a more natural fix, do some cardio or hold a cold compress on your eyes. Fluid collects around our eyes during the day and drains while you sleep. If you skip out on snoozing, you aren’t giving your body the opportunity to replenish itself. Eating too much salt retains that fluid, so don’t snack on Doritos while you’re studying because then you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Cardio or cold compresses will increase circulation, tricking your eyes into draining naturally. So, walk briskly to school or do 30 jumping jacks before heading out the door.
Don’t do all of the first five tips, that takes too much time, which is already tight! Pick and choose the right one for your personality and problems. God created you beautiful, but the stress of the world can easily overwhelm. Don’t hide your beauty or sulk in the dreary moment. Instead, defeat the problem with one or two of these simple tricks.
After you ace the test, go home and get some rest!
