Summer Bucket List Ideas

Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for since school started last August…summer! Now that the finals frenzy is over, you deserve a break. Catch up on lost sleep, hang out with your friends or go see your favorite fairy tale retold in Maleficent. These long, lazy days filled with the sun, the pool and friends seem to last forever.

However, after a couple weeks, make sure your slow-down doesn’t become utter laziness. The scorching temps combined with the lack of a to-do list can ease you into a comfortable, semi-vegetative state. It’s important to stay active and in control of your summer so the days don’t just slip away.

Stuff to do over summer

Be sure to integrate simple and easy things into your days to help make them meaningful:

  • Pick up a hobby you’ve always wanted to do, but never made enough time for.
  • Hang out with your parents or sibs every once and awhile when you would normally be at school or practice.
  • Since you’re no longer crammed into homeroom with your best buds, friendships will require more effort. Be intentional with your girls by scheduling different activities that are more involved than going to the mall for the third time in a week. Join your friends for a hike in the mountains or a walk along the beach. Bake cookies together and then take them to a family from church that might need a little pick-me-up.
  • Plan to host an event with your family. Invite all your family friends and enjoy an afternoon luau and pool party or an evening relaxing with great company during an outdoor movie night.
  • Interact with your neighbors, they live close by and are interested in your life, so round them up for a game of “Capture the Flag” or a killer water fight.
  • Keep your room clean and organized to maintain order in your life while your days may lack a routine. Make your bed daily and perform other simple tasks so you don’t become trapped in a messy environment by the end of summer.
  • Get involved in the life of someone less fortunate than you by volunteering at a soup kitchen, senior home or children’s program. Laziness is a form of selfishness, so by incorporating other people into your summer you’re taking the focus off yourself to center your days on other issues that may be more important than your mundane world.
  • Enjoy nature, go on a hike, bike ride or walk – Or even do yoga in your backyard.
  • Plan, prepare and eat healthy meals. Don’t rely on junk food or snack items, but seek delicious meals for sustenance instead.

Life moves more slowly in the summer, but that doesn’t mean it has to stop. Summer is all about having fun, so relax and enjoy! You’ll be amazed at how much fun “FUN” can be when you put some thought into it and plan a little.
