While you’re out shopping with your best girlfriends, you find the cutest skirt. Everyone agrees it’s totally your style and you should try it on. Before you look for your size and hit the fitting room, you look at the price. This is the first thing everyone does. Not only do we want to know if we can afford the item, we want to know its value.
This is typically what we do with people too, and they do the same to us. What’s the first thing we think of when viewing someone’s external appearance? His or her value. Is she worth our time and energy? Would we be interested in befriending her? Does she have something to offer us? We build potential relationships on our perceived value of someone.
Your True Value is Priceless
When Christ looks at you, what’s the first thing He sees? Your value and worth as well. But the difference between Jesus’ view of you and the view that other people have is that Jesus knows your value. He doesn’t have to make a judgement call. He knows what you’re worth. He paid that price with His life. Therefore, He knows you are priceless. He loves and adores you and desires to be with you so deeply that He sacrificed His own life so you could obtain yours!
What do you see when you look at your price tag? Do you view yourself through the eyes of Christ? Do you see your true worth? Do you see yourself as priceless, worthy of His great sacrifice? Do you see how intelligent, beautiful, strong, bold and graceful you are? Do you realize how incredible you are?
If you’re able to embrace your worth, are you showing the world? Are you demonstrating to other people who you are and why? God hasn’t asked us to flaunt ourselves, but He desires for us to stand firm in our identity, which means we need to present ourselves as a daughter of the Most High King. We are radiant, we are beloved, we are beautiful. Walk every day knowing and believing this truth.
Your Tantalizing View
If you have a hard time realizing your worth, take a moment to stand in front of the mirror. See the beauty of YOU. Look deep in your heart, what character and personality traits has God shaped within you to make you unique? What talents, gifts and abilities has He given you that you should be proud of? What physical beauty has He created you with? What does He want you to realize about yourself that no one else knows?
Ask God to tell you what He thinks of you. He will have a lot of marvelous things to say. You can ask Him while you’re going about your day, or you can set aside a special time to sit quietly in your room so you can hear the deep whispers of His tender heart. He will tell you with great intimacy how much He adores you.
Take some time to read from scripture His words about your value and worth. The Bible is full of opportunities to learn more about how God views you. His Word is rich in text about the Lord’s compassion and faithfulness toward YOU. Memorize some of these verses. Journal about how His scripture speaks to your heart. Praise Him for the way He sees you and thank Him for giving you such immeasurable value.
The World’s Value
Once we understand our own value and worth, we have the incredible opportunity to help other people realize their own. There’s no price tag on your life. There‘s no dollar sign on the heart of any human being. We are all priceless because we are all created by an amazing God.
