The end of the second stanza of Silent Night notes, “Jesus, Lord at thy birth. Jesus, Lord at thy birth.” Jesus was Lord from the very first day of His life. We may think of this regularly, but we hardly contemplate how that impacts us on a human level. Jesus’ purpose was to be our Lord. He had that purpose placed upon Him from the very moment He entered this world.
