Early Church Formation Found in Testament
The Book of Acts may be one of the most complicated books of the Bible. It’s fascinating to read, but its perplexing narrative about the Holy Spirit, miracles, imprisonment and conversion make it mysterious and difficult to understand.
Acts marks the beginning of the early Church, when Jesus sends His Holy Spirit to work in the lives of his Apostles in order to spread the Good News. It’s hard to comprehend the works of the Holy Spirit while reading through the text, but when translated into modern media, suddenly the story becomes alive in a manner unexplained.
Testament, a new movie and TV series through Angel Studios, turns this powerful story into a cinematic experience. Driven by dynamic characters, emotion and storytelling it illuminates the hope that we can all have in the truth and life of Jesus Christ.
Testament TV Series
A darkness overcame the land after the death of Jesus. The Imperium continues on their path of control, but rumors of Jesus’ resurrection has them hiding the truth, until Pentecost when Jesus sends His Holy Spirit to work in the lives of the people of Salem. Jesus speaks through the Apostles and draws an entire community together who believe that Jesus is the true Messiah. “We’ve seen stories about the early Church before, but never quite like this,” says director Paul Syrstad.
Testament vividly reimagines the Book of Acts with a contemporary outlook. By taking the rich story of the Apostles and skewing it with an alternative-modern era, it deeply resonates with people of today. “Testament captures the spiritual and human struggle of Acts — but in a time that feels just close enough to our own to unsettle you, all whilst staying true to the Biblical account. It’s raw, emotional, and ultimately hopeful,” says Syrstad.
In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, Jesus’ followers stand firm, exuding peace and stability. By coming together, they persevere against all odds, making them stronger and more secure in their faith. As the Imperium feels threatened by this growing mass, they’re overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. In an effort to silence the preaching and teaching of Jesus Christ, the Imperium becomes more frantic and disjointed. The tension on both sides fracture loyalties and relationships, exposes secrets and confronts hypocrisy in an effort to destroy. As internal battles rise, everyone must face the truth and determine where they stand.
