Toast is a classic feel good food. Lather on the butter or the jelly and your belly is quickly satisfied. But, unless you have a plethora of jam flavors, the standard toast can become boring pretty quick. Here are a few suggestions for not only healthy, but hearty toast snacks.
Healthy Toast Recipe for a Hearty Snack
Select a Wheat Bread or multigrain bread for your toast:
Top your Toast with Melted Cheese
Stick your toast in the microwave or a toaster oven to melt the cheese for a cozy after school snack. You can add a slice of tomato or deli meat if you like.
Avocado Toast Recipe
Smash an avocado with a fork, then spread it on a piece of toast fresh out of the toaster for a savory snack. Sprinkle with a little salt and pepper if you like.
Top your Toast with Pepperoni
Top your warm toast with pepperoni (or turkey pepperoni) for a spicy snack. Add sliced cucumber if you want more of a crunch.
Ricotta Cheese & Strawberries Toast Recipe
Mix a little honey with ricotta cheese, spread it over toast and top it with strawberries (or blueberries, peaches, raspberries) for a refreshing snack.
Top your Toast with Nut Butter & Banana
Spread your favorite nut butter over toast, then top with banana slices and a dash of cinnamon for a classic snack. For extra crunch, sprinkle a few nuts on top.
Top your Toast with a Hard-Boiled Egg
Butter your bread, then top it with a sliced hard-boiled egg for a mid-morning snack. Add lettuce and/or sliced pickles if you want a little more flavor.
