I am the way the truth and the life

I hate to tell you, but … you’ve been lied to. That’s the truth. You’ve been lied to all your life. Consequently, you’ve been lied to by your parents, your teachers, your coaches, the media, the government, even the church. Everyone in your life has disappointed you to some degree at one point or another.

You can go your entire life being bitter at the world for letting you down, for misdirecting you, and for keeping the truth a secret. Or you can spend your life pursuing the truth – which will satisfy you.

You can pursue the truth.

Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through me.” Out of all the religions of the world, Jesus is the only leader that proclaimed Himself as truth and stated that He leads us to the Creator of the universe. He is the truth we seek. As a result, He will never disappoint. He will never lie. He will never misdirect us. Instead, Jesus wants the best for you. He will always guide you to God, who loves you dearly and wants to be with you forever.

Seek Jesus through the Bible and ask Him to speak to your heart. When you’re ready to fully engage in a relationship with Christ and accept Him as your savior, declare Him Lord over your life and He will give you what the Bible calls the “Spirit of Truth” (known in our church culture as the Holy Spirit) who will speak directly to you about the truth.

You can be satisfied in the truth.

Jesus also said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) A disciple is a follower of Christ. You can be a disciple simply by obeying Christ and letting Him lead your life. His ways are better than your own.

Seek the truth of the Bible for what it really means, not what the church says, your teachers say or the media. They all have their own agenda. They all have their own idea based on their personal experience and their own shortcomings. These other individuals can help you on your journey, give you advice and challenge your faith – but you will need to make your faith your own. You need to learn to rely on Christ and let Him speak directly to your heart. If you’re able to learn to hear His voice over that of the rest of the world, you will be able to live a richer, more satisfying life.
