Get Fit With These Fun Fitness Activities

Being healthy means living healthy. Not only does it encompass proper exercise and diet, but it’s strongly connected to nurturing a positive outlook. Here are our top nine fun fitness activities for your weekends. Go get’em weekend warriors!!

Play on the playground.

I realize that the last thing most of you would like to do is go back to the elementary school playground, but give it a chance. Enjoy the swing sets and the monkey bars. Test out your triceps with some simple triceps dips on the playground equipment and use your strength to climb a rope or chain wall.

Dancing Queen . . . only [insert age here] . . .

Don’t be afraid to go all out . . . do the hair, makeup and clothes. Create a dance play list, have friends over and dance the night away! Create a theme for the dance party such as country cowgirl, 80’s pop, mocktail party or glamorous gala.

Climb the tallest building in the city.

No ropes and harnesses necessary! All you need is a challenging staircase, a water bottle and the determination to “summit” the building. Be sure to get the okay from building security before you begin your exercise adventure and “climb on.”

Elevator. Quit clowning around and give the staircase a whirl!

So many weeds, so little time.

Weed the garden for your parents. Also, investigate the local nursery for some cool new plants and discuss with your parents about installing a new garden area. Slap on some SPF 30 and enjoy the outdoors!

Pilates . . . Cardio Kickboxing . . . Yoga . . . Step Aerobics

Scope out your local recreation center, YMCA or gym and participate in a class that sounds interesting to you. Take advantage of the amenities your community has to offer. Not only is it great exercise, but it is an opportunity to meet people that have your same goals in mind. Who knows . . . you might find a class that’s worthy of slipping into your weekend routine on a permanent basis!

See if your parents have some old workout tapes or pick some up from Goodwill. Pop them in the VCR, if you still have one, and get a good laugh. Oh yeah, do the workout too! For extra kicks, dress up like the fitness instructor and invite your friends to do the same for a funny Friday evening. YouTube’s always a good alternate, but so blasé.

Shopaholic.

Enjoy a shopping trip to the mall; just count your steps as you “shop ‘til you drop.” Inquire at your local sporting goods store about a pedometer that can be purchased for approximately $15. When you think you’re done shopping, take an extra lap around the mall.
~ Modification ~
Escalator. Give yourself a much-deserved break and take a ride on the escalator. Only one repetition should do it. Now, get back to the sales!

So, what’s a field goal?

Good question! Research the rules of a new game with your best girlfriends. Divide up into teams and test out your skills. This could become a great weekly weekend activity. If interested, a local recreation center might be the best resource for getting involved in various intramural recreation leagues.
~ Definition ~
According to the Oxford American College Dictionary . . . “field goal n. 1 Football a goal scored by a placekick, scoring three points. 2 Basketball a basket scored while the clock is running and the ball is in play.”

Take a hike! Literally.

Investigate some cool new areas in your community. Suit up with your hiking boots, grab some energy bars and lots of water, then head out for an adventure!

Run for it!

Go for a run around your favorite park. Grab Fido and test yourself. Jog the entire perimeter of the park. Not only will you get some exercise, but also your four-legged friend will thank you.

Everyday activities can contribute to a healthy lifestyle . . . just shift the perspective a little bit and have fun!

~ Cheers to a healthy lifestyle.
