Earning a paycheck is rewarding, but it’s also a learning opportunity. Making your own money means you can:

• Enjoy movies or concerts with your friends
• Help others by giving money to your church and charities
• Buy cute summer clothes and accessories

Prevent Boredom

Doing whatever you want with your free time may sound fun, but you’ll eventually become tired of having nothing to do. Working a job is exciting because it allows you to:

• Make friends at work
• Serve your community
• Master new skills and techniques

Find your Dream Job

A summer job is a good way to start thinking about what you want to do later in life. Working will prepare you for the future by helping you:

• Discover your passions and God-given gifts
• Explore different types of careers
• Develop your talents and organization skills

Working means having extra money and plenty to do, but it’s also a great way to learn about who God is creating you to become. God has given you unique skills. Learning what you’re passionate about will help you think about what you want to do in the future, and how you can serve Him using your talents. Regardless of where you work or what you do this summer – your life, time and money belong to God. This summer, you have the opportunity to glorify Him in a whole new way by serving other people and being a light within your community.

How Your Image Matters

Many executives hire someone to manage their corporate images for them. You may not be looking for a corporate job, but your image matters; especially when you haven’t met the person before. For most jobs the first impression isn’t the one you give at the interview, but the one you gave when you picked up or turned in the application. So, when you and your friends are out picking up applications, present yourself as someone “hireable.” Don’t portray yourself as someone a company might consider after a shower and a haircut. Whether you like it or not, most companies and organizations like the clean-cut look. Before you go in asking for an application take out your nose ring and comb your hair. Chances are you’ll be more likely to get called in for an interview, even if they do end up letting you have that extra piercing!
